Labs: Located in the Physical Sciences Building (PSC):

CHEM 150: PS2037 (Walking through the front door of the PSC, room 2037 is immediately to the right of the main stairwell.)

Lab Schedule: The schedules of all chemistry labs are posted on the departmental website at:

http://sites.stfx.ca/chemistry/lab_schedule

Labs are scheduled as follows:

CHEM 150L.11: Monday afternoon (2:15 pm – 5:15 pm)

CHEM 150L.12: Monday evening (6:30 pm – 9:30 pm)

CHEM 150L.13: Tuesday afternoon (2:15 pm – 5:15 pm)

Lab Coats, etc.: You will not be permitted to perform experiments in your chemistry lab without proper safety equipment, which includes a lab coat and CSA approved goggles.  (No open-toed shoes permitted.)  You can purchase these from the Chemistry Society at the Physical Sciences Building.  For more information, please follow the link:

Lab coats and goggles are being sold in the main lobby of the PSC between Thursday, Sept. 5th, and Friday, Sept. 13th.  Lab coats are $20 and goggles are $5.

Plagarism: This is another very important issue for any student submitting reports/assignments/labs.  This problem has been encountered in many cases, particularly for lab write-ups.  Please be aware that there is no "group" content assigned in the course.  See 2013-2014 academic calendar, page 13 (section 3.8.2), for more information.

Tutorials: Compulsory course tutorials for CHEM 150 are held every other week, starting the week of September 19th.  They are held in room PS1072.

Attendance: Class attendance is mandatory.  Please see the 2009-2010 academic calendar, page 13 for more information.

POLICY ON ABSENCES:  “Students are expected to attend all classes and laboratory periods.” - StFX Academic Calendar, section 3.7  For the CHEM 150 course, the tutorial sessions are deemed to be laboratory periods.  If a student misses a class, it is the student’s responsibility to determine what material was covered and what announcements concerning the course were made in that class.  Any information relating to course content, classes, laboratory and tutorial sessions, quizzes and exams, announced in class is assumed to be communicated to all students in the course. (Note: all class announcements are posted on the course web site.)

If a student misses a marked event, such as a quiz or laboratory session, for reasons beyond their control, the student is directed to the Dean or to one of the assistants to the Deans (Main Floor, Nicholson Hall).  An “absence notice” will be issued, if appropriate, to all of the student’s professors.  Without such an “absence notice”, a mark of zero will be assigned for that missed marked event.
