Teaching
I am an Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Program which is in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at St. Francis Xavier University.
In 2010-11 I am teaching Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology (ANTH 112.10), Health and Medicine in Cross-Cultural Perspective (ANTH 218), Anthropology of Tourism (ANTH 310) and Anthropology of HIV/AIDS (ANTH 415) and Anthropology of Gender (ANTH 234).
Research
My research interests range from the socio-political context of Japanese archaeology to Anne of Green Gables/Montgomery tourism in Prince Edward Island to work on the cultural context of breastfeeding in eastern Nova Scotia. I am presently involved in a research project that examines the Coady International Institute's Youth Internship Program as development education. During the summer of 2006 I worked at the Sannai Maruyama site in Aomori Japan where I examined the multiple presentations of this Jomon Period archaeological site.
