Film festivals are tools for citizenship
education and community building. I initiated, coordinated, and was the curator
for 10 community-based documentary film festivals and 4 in academic
conferences:

· Coordinated poetry readings in various departments and universities.
· Initiated, designed, and led the transformation of a “creepy” space in the Department of Adult Education and Community Development at OISE/UT now called the Peace Lounge, a popular meeting space for faculty, staff, students, and community activists in Toronto.
· Coordinated fundraising activities ($10,000) to support the family of a student from Sierra Leone in the midst of civil war.
· Participated in the student association of the Department of Adult Education and Community Development at OISE/UT.
· Involved with the speakers’ series and with the social committee of the department.
·
Hosted
meetings for United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) in Nanaimo, BC, during the War
in Iraq.

I was Program Coordinator for multi-national, multi-cultural teams of 50
people and I was responsible for educational planning, orientation of
professional staff and participants, and leadership.
