The focus of my research is on the effects of resistance training and nutritional factors (diet and/or supplements) on body composition, muscle strength, anaerobic fatigue, and cellular and whole body metabolic changes.

In our laboratory we routinely measure 1RM strength, anaerobic fatigue, MVO2, and collect blood and urine. The blood and urine is used to assess the levels of a variety of chemical species to determine changes in health status and also to quantify the metabolic intermediates and waste products of numerous nutritional and pharmacological substances.

In our Physiology Lab we have a DXA for measuring body composition and bone density; an Autoanalyzer for measuring blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, and liver enzymes; an HPLC and UV-Spec for blood and urine measures of creatine, creatinine, NH3, amino acids, and a number of other chemical species.

In our Exercise Lab we have 1200 sq ft of free weights and machines for training the subjects involved in our research projects; a number of ergocycles and treadmills set up for training and also various testing protocols.
