Edwin DeMont is a Professor in the Biology Department, and runs the lab. Present Personnel Karen King (M.Sc. Student) completed her biology degree (co-op) at Dalhousie University and is studying the limits on the climbing ability of lobsters. Tina Dickieson (B.Comm. Calgary) is a research assistant and helping commercialize our projects. Past Personnel Graduate Students Jeanette Lim (B.Sc. UBC) completed her M.Sc. Degree studying jet-assisted walking in lobsters and is now completing her Ph.D. at Harvard University. Matthew Ford (B.Sc. Physics (Honours), St.F.X.), Modelling the mechanics of swimming in lobster and snow crab larvae, graduated September 2002, completed a Ph.D. Robarts Research Institute (Western), presently a postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Simulation Laboratory, Toronto. Chantell Bussiere (B.Sc. Physiology, Saskatoon), An investigation of the effect of calcium on the mechanical function and structure of aortic microfibrils in the lobster Homarus americanus, graduated 2002 from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Dalhousie University. Sean Mitchell (B.Sc. Biology, Victoria), The mechanics of the mero-carpopodite joint of the walking legs of the American lobster (Homarus americanus) and the snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio), started in May 1999, defended thesis in August 2001, awarded NSERC PGS B. Hayden Courtland (B.Sc Biochemistry, Vassar (USA)), Structure and function in non-collagen based cartilages, co-supervised with G. Wright, Atlantic Veterinary College, graduated with distinction (May, 2001. Andrew Leger (B.Sc. Physics (Honours), St.F.X.), Modulators of microfibril function, graduated in November 1998, supported by NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship. Eric Anderson (B.Sc. Biophysics, Gordon College (USA)), Biofluiddynamics of squid swimming, graduated 1997, supported by Fulbright Fellowship. Colin McConnell (B.Sc. Biophysics, St. Mary’s), Form and Function of Microfibril-based Elastic Materials, graduated 1996). Andrew Arsenault (B.Sc.
