Stone #29
Emily M. Angell Whidden Dimensions: approx. 6’ Inscription: Some of the text is now illegible
and not recorded at the Antigonish Heritage Museum. In Affectionate Remembrance of Emily M. Angell Loving wife of Witter R Whidden Who fell asleep December 21st 1878 Aged 38 years. Material:
White marble Condition: Moss, lichen, and erosion make
this stone quite illegible in some places. There is little additional information
available aside from Emily’s husband’s obituary in the Casket, which states he was well-respected and that they had five
children. There are elaborate vegetal motifs carved
into the stone, and the inscription is contained within a similarly
natural-looking elliptical shape, which has a top something like a
fleur-de-lis. Irene York (edited by Christopher Greencorn) [ Back ] |
