Antigonish County

    

  • Maryvale Cemetery
    St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church
    15 km Northwest of the town of Antigonish. If leaving from town, proceed up Hawthorne Street and continue along Highway #245, past North Grant, until you see a white elementary school on the left at Maryvale. Park on the right side of the road, just across the road from the school. St. Mary's Church and cemetery are on the crest of the hill. The road is quite steep but there is a railing and driveway around the church.
  • Arisaig Cemetery
    St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church
    If leaving from town, proceed up Hawthorne Street and along Highway #245, past North Grant, Maryvale, Malignant Cove and Doctor's Brook. The Arisaig cemetery is on the left side of the road, with gravestones on the hill.
  • Georgeville Cemetery
    St. George's Roman Catholic Church
    Located along Highway #337, just off of Highway #245. If proceeding from Highway #245, turn onto #337 at Malignant Cove. If proceeding from Highway #337, Georgeville is past Southside Harbour, Morristown, Lakevale, Cape George, Ballantynes Cove and Livingstone Cove, just before the #337 meets the #245.
  • Morar Cemetery
    Old Morar Chapel
    Located 2 miles North East of the present Georgeville Church, on Highway #337. It is private property and the owner should be contacted prior to visiting the property.
  • Ballantyne's Cove Cemetery
    Holy Rosary Church & Cemetery
    Ballantyne's Cove is located along Highway #337 on the Sunrise Trail, between the communities of Cape George and Livingstone Cove.
  • Cape George Cemetery
    St. David's (Presbyterian) United Church
    Located 20 miles from Antigonish, along Highway #337. Cape George is between Ballantyne's Cove and Lakevale.
  • Old Lakevale Cemetery
    St. Columba Church
    Lakevale is along highway #337 on the Sunrise Trail, between the communities of Morristown and Cape George.
  • New Lakevale Cemetery
    Lakevale is along highway #337 on the Sunrise Trail, between the communities of Morristown and Cape George. The new cemetery is approximately opposite St. Columba Church.
  • Boyd's Cemetery
    Cribbens Point
    Turn right off Highway #337. Opposite Cribbens Point, near the shore.
  • Harbour Center Cemetery
    Paddy's Hollow - Sundial
    Right turn off the #337.
  • Town Point Cemetery
    6 miles outside of Antigonish, along #337. Right turn at Seabright, follow dirt road. There is no signage at the highway but the site is marked with a monument.
  • Lanark Cemetery
    Lanark is located not far from Antigonish along the #337. Only one stone from the cemetery has survived. Some remains have been transferred to St. Ninian's Cemetery in Antigonish. Several Mi’kmaq families from the area had been buried at Lanark.
  • Bethany Cemetery
    Sisters of St. Martha
    Bethany, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Martha, is located just past St. Martha's Regional Hospital, on Bay Street, on the route out to the #337.
  • Cloverville Road Cemetery
    Congregation of St. James - United, Anglican, Baptist, and Presbyterian The turnoff to Cloverville is just before the sharp left turn on College Street when proceeding from Main Street. The road to the cemetery is just past the railway tracks on the left side.
  • Glen Bard Cemetery
    James River, Antigonish County
    Located along the Old Highway, parallel to the Trans Canada Highway. Designated Provincial Heritage Property; burial place of Bard MacLean, a famous Gaelic poet.
  • Addington Forks Cemetery
    Can be reached via a farm road from on the "old" Addington Forks Road. The cemetery is well hidden in the woods, and the visible stones date from 1834-1903 and are mostly MacDonalds. Addington Forks is off the Trans Canada Highway, west of Antigonish.
  • St. Joseph's Cemetery
    Located approximately one mile after the Gaspereux Lake turnoff on the #7 Highway.
  • Ohio Cemetery
    Ohio is located off Highway #7, past St. Joseph's. Turn left at the T-junction. The cemetery is located in a wooded area on the left along this paved road.
  • Morvan Cemetery, Keppoch Mountain
    Immaculate Conception Church, St. Mary's Church
    Located Southwest of Antigonish, on a mountain between Ohio and the Garden of Eden, near the county border.
  • Stewart Cemetery, Lochaber
    The cemetery is located in South Lochaber, at the top of a hill. A road off Highway #7, on the right side of the lake (from Sherbrooke to Antigonish) provides easy access.
  • Murray Cemetery, Lochaber
    Driving from Sherbrooke to Antigonish, this cemetery is on the same side as the Stewart Cemetery proceeding North towards Antigonish. Burials here range from 1851-1982, and contain the remains of many of the pioneer families.
  • St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lochaber
    St. Patrick's Catholic Church
    Only Catholic Cemetery in Lochaber. Lochaber is South of Antigonish, along the #7 Highway to Sherbrooke.
  • Cameron Cemetery, Lochaber Lake
    A small cemetery on a steep hill in North Lochaber, very close to Highway #7. The first cemetery encountered when approaching Lochaber from Antigonish
  • North Lochaber Cemetery, Lochaber Lake
    Located at the head of Lochaber Lake, approximately 13 miles South of Antigonish. When approaching the lake, take the first right turn from Highway #7 to the West side.

 

  • St. Ninian's Cemetery
    St. Ninian's Parish
    Just off the Trans Canada Highway as it passes Antigonish. Can be clearly seen from the Highway.

 

  • Old Catholic Cemetery, Main Street
    Located on Main Street in Antigonish, at the rear of the present Legion Hall.
  • St. James Presbyterian (United) Cemetery
    Located on Church Street in the town of Antigonish. St. James Church is located on the corner of Main Street and Church Street.
  • South Side Harbour, Old Cemetery
    Located near the shore in South Side Harbour, off the Trans Canada Highway, East of Antigonish.
  • St. Croix Roman Catholic Cemetery, Pomquet
    Pomquet is an Acadian community, East of Antigonish, off the Trans Canada Highway.
  • Landry's Cemetery, Lower South River
    On private property owned by Mr. T. Landry. Turn off the Trans Canada Highway, before the bridge on the left hand side in Lower South River. Vehicle traffic is very heavy so care is needed to get there.
  • St. Andrew's Cemetery (Old)
    The cemetery is located on Manchester Road in St. Andrew's, which is East of Antigonish off the Trans Canada Highway, Exit 35.
  • Marydale Cemetery
    The community of Marydale is East of Antigonish, off the Trans Canada Highway, Exit 35. It is past St. Andrews, on the road to Caledonia Mills.
  • Middle South River Cemetery
    South River is South of Antigonish off the Trans Canada Highway, Exit 35. It is located along the #316 Highway, near the Antigonish/Guysborough county border.
  • Cummings Cemetery, Upper South River
    Upper South River is South of Antionish along the #316 Highway, which can be accessed via the Trans Canada Highway, Exit 35.
  • Summerside Cemetery
    The community of Summerside is near Heatherton, off the Trans Canada Highway, East of Antigonish. Turn left at Exit 36 and it's about a three-minute drive.  
  • Afton Road Cemetery
    The community of Afton, is on the #4 Highway, along the Sunrise Trail. Can be accessed via the Trans Canada Highway, heading East toward Cape Breton from Antigonish.
  • Tracadie Old Cemetery
    Tracadie is East of Antigonish, off the Trans Canada Highway, along the Sunrise Trail (Highway #4).
  • St. Peters Catholic Church, Tracadie
    Tracadie is East of Antigonish, off the Trans Canada Highway, along Highway #4 which is part of the Sunrise Trail.
  • Anglican Cemetery, Linwood
    The community of Linwood is located along the #4 Highway, which can be accessed via the Trans Canada Highway. It is located between the communities of Tracadie and Havre Boucher. The land was originally granted to Joseph Symonds and the "Society for Propagation of the Gospel," in 1838. Later, it was used as an Anglican Cemetery for Christ Church (1834-1975).
  • Havre Boucher Cemetery
    The community of Havre Boucher is East of Antigonish, near Cape Breton. It is on the #4 Highway, which can be accessed via the Trans Canada Highway, Exit 38.
  • Lismore Cemetery
    Lismore is Northwest of Antigonish, along Highway #245. It is along the Sunrise Trail. It is between the communities of Knoydart and Lower Barney's River, along the coast of Nova Scotia.  
  • Giant's Lake Cemetery
    St. Francis De Sales
    The community of Giant Lake is located South of Antigonish, along Highway #276, which can be accessed via the #316 Highway, Exit 35 off the Trans Canada Highway.
