Parallel Computing Journal
Special issue on Parallel and Distributed Scientific and Engineering Computing

Scope and Interests:

Parallel and distributed processing is one of the most exciting technologies to achieve prominence, whose development has been facilitated by the rapid advances in electronic and integrated circuit technologies, since the invention of computers in the 1940s. It is expected that the years to come will witness a proliferation of the use of parallel and distributed systems, or supercomputers.

Based on the above fact, parallel and distributed scientific and engineering computing has become a key technology which will play an important part in determining, or at least shaping, future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches. The application areas are to be understood very broadly and include, but are not limited to: computational fluid dynamics and mechanics, material sciences space, weather, climate systems and global changes, computational environment and energy systems computational ocean and earth sciences, combustion system simulation computational chemistry, computational physics bioinformatics and computational biology, medical applications transportation systems simulations, combinatorial and global optimization problems, structural engineering, computational electromagnetics, computer graphics, semiconductor technology, and electronic circuits and system design etc. In this special issue, we would like to report on relevant research representing the state-of-the-art in the following areas of parallel and distributed scientific and engineering computing:

development of advanced parallel and distributed scientific and engineering methods,
parallel and distributed scientific and engineering computing techniques, algorithms and codes,
practical experiences using various supercomputers with software such as MPI, PVM, HPF, and OpenMP etc.,
domain decomposition,
loop and task parallelism,
scheduling and load balancing,
compiler, hardware and OS issues for scientific and engineering computing,
memory system and I/O supports for scientific and engineering computing,
performance modeling and evaluation of scientific and engineering computing,
cluster and grid scientific and engineering computing.

Notice that only papers:

reporting the above methods which are applied to solving scientific and engineering problems,
describing the advantages resulting from the use of parallel and distributed technologies,
in which the particular problem(s) considered and solved must be clearly shown,

may be accepted. Papers with only theoretical results will not be considered.

Submission Information:

Authors should send one copy of papers in either PS or PDF format of at most 30 pages to the Guest Editor Prof Yang (lyang@stfx.ca) with 5 keywords via electronic mail or three copies via postal mail. Contributions will be reviewed by at least three external reviewers for relevance and technical contents on basis of papers.
