Dr. James Cameron is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia. He received his bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Prince Edward Island in 1980 and a bachelor of education degree from UPEI in 1981. He attended Acadia University Divinity College and was awarded his master of arts in theology in 1985. In 1990 he received a PhD in history from Queens University.

Dr. Cameron has taught history at the University of Prince Edward Island and was commissioned by St.F.X. to write a scholarly history of the university in 1990. He held the position of university historian from 1990 to 1994. Currently he holds the position of assistant professor of history in the St.F.X. Department of History.

Other publications by Dr. Cameron have dealt with topics such as the history of Methodism and the formation of the United Church of Canada in Prince Edward Island and Celtic Tradition. He has a keen interest in Celtic fiddle music, local heritage, sports and dance. He and his wife Pat currently reside in North Grant, Antigonish County with their five children.
