Rod Bantjes ( PhD ) is a
Professor in the Department
of Sociology and Anthropology , St.
Francis Xavier University . He has taught a variety of courses in the
Department since 1991.
He does research full-time during the
summer and part-time during the school year. This work is funded by various
research grants
. His main areas of interest are environmental social movements, state
formation and rural social geography. He communicates the results of his
work at conferences
*and in academic publications
. Normally, he has funding to hire StFX students
as research
assistants . Those interested should talk to him about future openings.
Like all academics (but unlike most
professionals), he is obliged to take part in the running of day-to-day
affairs of the university by attending meetings and sitting on committees.
