John or Andrew Gillis (Georgeville\BLDW60_4191.html)

This is a house site south of the main road (Hwy 337) near Georgeville.  It was owned by either an Andrew or John Gillis.  All of the inhabitants of the house died of TB in the 1920s.

The cellar is “C” shaped wrapped around the base of a fireplace which was at the centre of the building.  Cellar stairs enter from the east wall.  The foundation extends beyond the cellar to the north.  Charlie paced out the dimensions at 36 by 34 ft with 36 ft being the east-west dimension.  This was huge by 19th century standards.

The following is a photo of Charlie pacing the north side of the foundation and Bernie standing by.

The following is a close up showing dressed stone.

The following picture shows the high quality of the stonework.

The following again illustrates the quality of the work.
