HTML WRITER version 0.9 beta 4a Update ===================================== Welcome to the HTML Writer version 0.9 beta 4a update! This forth beta release adds several new features and fixes several bugs found in the other 0.9 versions. Although this is a beta release, I have tried to debug the program as much as I could. The purpose of this beta release is to let you see and use the new features I have implemented as well as to get some feedback on how you like or dislike the program as a whole and its individual features. PLEASE send me some feedback with your comments! Obviously I am most concerned with any serious bugs you find, but I also want to hear about cosmetic errors or bugs that you find. Please help me make HTML Writer better by sending me your comments about this beta release! Send you comments to: html-writer@byu.edu. SETUP INSTRUCTIONS ------------------ 1 - Copy the executable (HTMLWRIT.EXE), help (HTMLWRIT.HLP), text files (README.TXT and HISTORY.TXT) and the sample template file (EXAMPLE.HWT) to a directory of your choosing (i.e. C:\WINDOWS\HTMLWRIT). Be sure to overwrite any older versions! 2 - Copy the following files into your Windows System (i.e. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) or Windows (i.e. C:\WINDOWS) directory: CMDIALOG.VBX, COMMDLG.DLL, EMEDIT.VBX, and TOOLBARS.VBX. Be sure to overwrite any older versions of EMEDIT.VBX and TOOLBARS.VBX, but save (rename) any older versions of CMDIALOG.VBX and COMMDLG.DLL since you may need to use these older versions in some cases. 3 - Make sure the file VBRUN300.DLL is in your Windows or Windows System directory. VBRUN300.DLL can be found on just about every on-line service (i.e. CompuServe, Genie, BBSs, Internet, etc.). If you have ftp access, you can get VBRUN300.DLL from lal.cs.byu.edu in the /pub/www/tools directory as VBRUN300.ZIP. 4 - If you have used an older version of HTML Writer and you wish to keep the settings you had used, move the file HTMLWRIT.INI from your windows directory to your HTML Writer directory. Form this version on HTML Writer expects to find its initialization file (HTMLWRIT.INI) in the same directory as HTMLWRIT.EXE. 5 - Run the program (HTMLWRIT.EXE). That should do it! All program settings which carry over from one HTML Writer session to the next are stored in the file HTMLWRIT.INI which is created after you set or change one of the program's parameters. These settings should all be backward compatible with older versions of HTML Writer. Look at the on-line help for more information. NOTICES: -------- The HTML Writer home pages on the Web have moved! Please update your hotlist(s) with the new URL. The old URL will bring up a page which points to the new pages so this isn't critically important. Along with the move I have greatly expanded the HTML Writer Web pages to provide more in-depth information and help with everything from known bugs to links to HTML and WWW resources on the Web. I'd encourage you to check the HTML Writer home pages before e-mailing me since it may save both of us some time. Here is the new URL: http://lal.cs.byu.edu/people/nosack/ Please read the HISTORY.TXT file for information about the changes made in this and previous versions of HTML Writer. Several new features have been added, so it is to your advantage to read about them in the HISTORY.TXT file. The EXAMPLE.HWT file is a sample template which you can look at and try out to get acquainted with the new template feature. Any questions about HTML Writer should be directed to: html-writer@byu.edu I am maintaining a mailing list for the users of HTML Writer who would like to receive e-mail messages concerning HTML Writer updates and other information. If you'd like to join this mailing list, send a request to the above e-mail address or use the feedback form available on the HTML Writer feedback page. Enjoy! - Kris Nosack author of HTML Writer
