"Catholic Universities, Freedom of Religion, and Human Rights."

In this paper, I wish to make some suggestions concerning the rights and responsibilities of Catholic Universities as Catholic institutions. I wish particularly to address the charge that, in carrying out their mission, Catholic universities violate or compromise the human rights of its faculty/employees and students. Here I want to draw on Maritain's philosophical defence of freedom of conscience, the value of diversity, and the legitimacy of the Christian (i.e., Catholic) character of institutions.
