THE DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS AND PHILOSOPHY, UNIVERSITY OF IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COUNCIL FOR RESEARCH IN VALUES AND PHILOSOPHY, (CRVP) ANNOUNCE AN INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON INTERCULTURAL PHILOSOPHY RATIONALE: It is obvious that technological advances over the centuries have
expanded, intensified and deepened communication between communities,
cultures and civilizations in a manner that has transformed the context in
which communities hitherto existed, making cooperative and competitive
exchanges and relations to be increasingly on a trans-cultural basis. This
presents both a challenge and an opportunity to philosophy: it challenges
every philosophy to rethink its assumptions, preferences, postulations,
standards and insights in the light of those of other cultures; and an
opportunity to enlarge our perception of reality by incorporating
perspectives from other cultures that enable us achieve a higher synthesis
epistemologically, axiological and so on. This conference aims at bringing
philosophers, as well as other scholars, together to find ways of meeting
this challenge and exploiting the opportunity. Theme: Universalism, Relativism and Intercultural Philosophy Sub themes: 1. The Meaning and Nature
