Dr. William Sweet

Research and teaching 

I am Professor in the Department of Philosophy at St Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, NS, Canada. I also serve as Director of the Centre for Philosophy, Theology and Cultural Traditions.

I am, as well, a member of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the University of Ottawa, serve as an adjunct professor in the graduate programmes of Saint Paul University and of the Collège dominicain de philosophie et de théologie in Ottawa, Canada,

My principal areas of teaching are: ethics, philosophy of religion, modern philosophy, political philosophy, and comparative Asian and Western philosophy.

  • political philosophy (particularly on issues of human rights);
  • late 19th and early 20th century Anglo-American Philosophy (particularly, the origins of analytic philosophy and British Idealism);
