An outstanding and progressive geoscience professional, Matthew Schumacher is the
phenomenal Environmental Science Instructor at St. Francis Xavier University.

A self-admitted nerdy fellow, who enjoys baseball, retro games and the odd scotch, Matt, as he is affectionately known around campus, performs his duties as Lab and Sessional Instructor with brilliance.

He excels in the teaching of all things ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE as well as GEOMATICS. With an educational background in HYDROGEOLOGY and QUATERNARY GEOLOGY, he is quite passionate about groundwater issues and is not above digging holes in the sand at the beach with his kids.

GIS Work

A geographic information system (GIS) is "a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data."  The way spatial data and information is now collected and analyzed has transformed the way relationships and patterns in the world are understood and is being used by an increasingly large range of users, for a multitude of purposes.

Matt is the foremost GIS professional at StFX and highly respected for his prompt, professional and precise work. He has been involved with many prominent projects within the industrial, government and academic sectors. Also an expert in georeferenced data acquisition methods, Matthew is available to assist with any project that is looking for outstanding results utilizing spatial information.
