1817 petition of William Worthy.  “Your petitioner was born and brought up in England and has been four years in this province engaged in mercantile pursuits and is a faithful loyal subject; your petitioner further showeth that he has a wife and five children and three servants and has never applied for received from the crown any land by Grant, but it is very desirous of obtaining some in the county of Sydney for the purpose of settling and improving having serious intent of settling in Antigonish; the petitioner has not sold and does not intend to barter or sell any land the government may be pleased to grant him” [sign in his own hand 18 February, 1817]
