‘Public Square’ on Town Point

A ‘town square’ is marked on the 1787 Town Point Map at roughly this spot. However, this document seems to be as much a plan or proposal as a map of things on the ground.

The following detail of the map has been rotated about 130 degrees to orient it to the cardinal points (according to the mapmaker’s conception of north). The spot labelled “b” is entered in the key as ‘public square.’ (See the key.)
