Peter Gillis, pioneer (Eigg Mountain Settlement History)

Claims in a petition that he is one of the original settlers along with Donald MacDougall, Alexander MacDonald, and Donald MacDonald all of whom and had been residing in the back settlement of the Gulf Shore (Rear Arisaig – Highfield side) for upwards of 30 years in 1827.  (In other words there were settlers on the Mountain around 1800.)  He received a grant in 1829.  Rankin (145) says he settled at Doctors Brook.  I have him at the headwaters of Doctors Brook as it descends Eigg Mountain.
