FIELD SCHOOL!

Testimonials from previous students

"The two weeks I spent here at X taking Field School were two of the best weeks I had at X. Where else can you get 3-credits in two weeks? Sure, you get no sleep; sure, you spend all your money on coffee; sure, the word insect makes you cringe at the end of the first week; and sure, Randy has a bad habit of letting the van run out of gas miles away from civilization, but hey, field school is so much fun, who wants to sleep. And really, anyone whose written any exams at a University level already has a lethal level of caffeine in their system. As for the insects, well, I still cringe, and it's been two years. And honestly, running out of gas in the middle of no where isn't that bad either. And here's the craziest part of all: YOU ACTUALLY LEARN....A LOT!!!."

Brian

"Field school was one of the greatest and most informative courses that I have taken at X. Randy (careful not to call them bugs) will have you searching light fixtures, cow paddies, and taking home road kill (careful some of them bite, the insects I mean). Norm Seymour will have you thinking about sex every minute, like a typical male. David Garbary will boggle your mind with so much plant sex! Mark Pulsifer, I call him Lucifer, is great. He's a biologist for DNR, who loves to talk scat, and you have to ask him about how porcupines do it! Have a lot of fun...this is a great opportunity to get to know yourself and to learn a lot about biology outside of the lab so if you can afford it, do it."

YT TATE ;-).

This is the most under-rated course in the Department! Everyone should take it!!, Chisholm 2008

Best course I ever took. Hands down the most relevant class I ever took. The people are amazing and the instructors are unreal, so down to earth, it is like no course you ever took and I strongly recommend it.  Anon, 2013

Before this course I questioned my choice on making bio one of my majors. After this course, I was sure that I had made the right choice. This course really brought back my interest in biology. The hands on experience really makes you remember and enjoy the material you are learning.  Christiana Watkins, 2013

You’d be stupid not to take this course, probably the most hands on, applicable course of your entire undergraduate degree. You’ll learn so much and spend time in the field. Ask lots of questions and be enthusiastic. I’d definitely take this course again, just for kicks. Instructors are super friendly and fun and to not to mention, intelligent. Tanya Koveshnikova, 2013.
