The
Coastal Management Web is
an independent venture. As well as regularly searching for
new coastal sites they rely upon the network of people
interested in the coast to send us information about any new
links to keep things up to date. They're keen on obtaining
links into the pages of active coastal management programs
at state/provincial and local levels. They're also keen to
link into programs in developing countries.
Department
of Fisheries and Aquaculture: Their purpose is to serve, develop and
optimize the harvesting, processing and recreational
segments of the Nova Scotia fishing and aquaculture
industries, for the betterment of our coastal communities
and the province as a whole.

Ecological
Monitoring and Assessment Network is comprised of approximately 100 research
and monitoring sites in Canada and is organized into 14
terrestrial Ecological Science Cooperatives. EMAN
provides:
- a national perspective on how
Canadian ecosystems are being affected;
- scientifically defensible
rationales for control and management activities;
- an evaluation of the
effectiveness of control programs;
- and identifies new
environmental issues as they emerge.

Council for the Exploration of the Sea: (ICES) is the oldest intergovernmental
organization in the world concerned with marine and
fisheries science. Since its establishment in Copenhagen in
1902, ICES has been a leading scientific forum for the
exchange of information and ideas on the sea and its living
resources, and for the promotion and coordination of marine
research by scientists within its member countries. Each
year, ICES holds more than 100 meetings of its various
working groups, study groups, workshops and committees.
These activities culminate each September when ICES holds
its Annual
Science Conference.
Proceedings of these meetings, and other related activities
are published by ICES.

Marinelife Alliance: The
International Marinelife Alliance (IMA) is the primary force

advocates judicious utilization of marine resources and the
conservation of coral reefs in underdeveloped
countries.
The Marine
Conservation Society,
founded following Underwater Conservation Year in 1977, is
the leading environmental charity in the UK dedicated solely
to protecting the marine environment. It has worked
successfully for twenty years to highlight issues of concern

National
Estuary Program: Bringing Our Estuaries New

by amendments to the Clean Water Act to identify, restore
and protect estuaries along the coasts of the United States.
Unlike traditional regulatory approaches to environmental
protection, the NEP targets a broad range of issues and
engages local communities in the process. The program
focuses not just on improving water quality in an estuary,
but on maintaining the integrity of the whole system -- its
chemical, physical, and biological properties, as well as
its economic, recreational, and aesthetic values.
