Dr. Boyle's current research focuses on the determinants of quality related event (i.e., medication errors and near misses) reporting and learning in community pharmacies. Key projects include:Pills

  • Identifying the individual, in-store, and corporate (where applicable) success and risk factors influencing QRE reporting and learning among Canadian community pharmacies;

  • Exploring how provincial regulators influence QRE reporting and learning within Canadian community pharmacies;

  • Assessing the extent that the existing policies, standards of practice, and acts of Canadian pharmacy regulatory authorities promote the success factors and address the key risk factors of QRE reporting and learning;

  • Assessing how well each provincial regulatory authority performs relative to others in Canada in enabling QRE reporting and learning in community pharmacies to occur, and identifying key deficiencies found in the policies, standards of practice and acts of Canadian pharmacy regulators;

  • Developing and enhancing a pharmacy-tailored CQI-program for improved QRE reporting and learning (i.e., SafetyNET-Rx) and mobile online application to allow regulatory authorities to assess pharmacy compliance to provincial policies with respect to QRE reporting and learning (i.e., CQI-IS).

Dr. Boyle’s research is fully funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF), and Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Trust (NSRIT).
