100         Introduction  to Psychology

A survey of the major topics of psychology and an introduction to the methodology of psychological research. Students are normally expected to be involved with ongoing research in the department by participating in experiments as subjects during the course of the academic year. Six credits.

377         Drugs and Behaviour

This course will look at psychoactive substances and how they act on the brain to influence behaviour. The course will introduce the student to basic pharmacological principles, provide an overview of how brain cells communicate, and examine in detail how drugs that cross the blood brain barrier affect cellular communication and in doing so influence behaviour. Drugs that will be reviewed include antidepressants and antipsychotics, as well as several major drugs of abuse including cocaine, heroin, marijuana, amphetamine and alcohol.  Prerequisites: Twelve psychology credits or permission from the chair. 430         Advance Topics in Behavioural Neuroscience (not offered 2012-2013)

This  is a lecture, seminar, and laboratory course in which current topics in the field of behavioural neuroscience will be considered. The second term will be taught by Dr. John McKenna. Prerequisites: PSYC230; advanced major or honours standing or permission of the chair. Six credits
