(Eigg Mountain Settlement History)
1. John Colin MacDonald. On Colin and Christina MacDonald’s list (1985) this is the first of those “who lived from Dan MacEachern to Dunmaglass Mountain.” They list John Colin MacDonald as a mail carrier and father of Colin, Angus and Christina.
This is the closest possible match from the 1911 census. According to an online obituary Christina Anne Connors (1913 – 2014) was born on Brown’s Mountain to John C. and Catherine (MacEachern) MacDonald. She had “Brothers Colin, John, & Joseph. Two sisters Mary & Anne.”

Christine and Collie MacDonald, brother and sister, were the last to live at this site. Christine was probably the last living person to have resided on Brown’s Mountain. One of the stories she told Charlie was about being alone in the house as a teenager with her younger sister when a drunken neighbour from the north dropped by and began eyeing them and “talking dirty.” They were rescued when their brother returned and threatened to split the man from end to end with an axe.
The house probably faced east toward the road. The foundation line is 30 ft along the north side and 26 ft along the east side. The cellar is in the northwest corner 18 by 20 ft. The barn site is to the east.
The remains of the collapsed barn, and possibly the partially standing house can be seen in the 1945 aerial photo.
The cellar is surrounded by deadfall and difficult to see.
