(Eigg Mountain Settlement History)

13. Angus MacEachern.  According to Colin and Christina MacDonald (1985) Angus MacEachern was “father of Dan MacEachern who kept the Post Office.”  They indicate this as west of the school house but both the Church and the Geological Survey Maps put the school west at the intersection with the road leading south to New Strathglass.

The Church Map places A. MacEachern on the west side of the road leading north.  This site is on the east side of the current road but west of the road as it is indicated on both the Church and the Geological Survey Maps.  The Geological Survey Map (1893) indicates the Post Office at roughly this site.

This is the closest possible match from the 1911 census, largely because it is next to a possible match to Colin and Christina’s family home.

The foundation measures 28(or 30) by 30 ft with a cellar on the southern part.  The 28 ft wall is oriented at 3° (i.e. the building probably faced the road to the east or due south.  There was a small porch on the north side.
