Sabrina Gigante, BA HKIN Honours

Sabrina is a recent graduate of StFX Human Kinetics, from London, Ontario. Her honours thesis explored the reliability of a wearable NIRS device for estimating lactate thresholds in varsity distance runners. Sabrina was also an athletic therapist and volleyball coach.

Rochelle Estabrooks

Rochelle is a fourth year Chemistry student from Saint John, New Brunswick. Over the past two summers (collaborative co-supervision with Dr. Alex Foo, StFX Chemistry), Rochelle explored heat tolerance of baker's yeast metabolizing lactate. Some of her work was recently accepted for publication!

Adalia Wamboldt

Adalia Wambolt, from Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia is a Chemistry and Biology student. She looked at how lactate and pyruvate differ as fuel sources in yeast cells in her summer of research (2024) at St.FX university. While pursuing her studies, she is also a competitive highland dancer and teacher.

Melina Collins, BSc HKIN Honours

Melina is a recent Human Kinetics graduate. Melina's honours thesis investigated the validity of a wearable NIRS device for estimating lactate thresholds in varsity distance runners. Melina is currently a student at Dalhousie University where she is a varsity basketball athlete.

Erin Noftall, BSc HKIN Honours

Erin is a recent human kinetics graduate from Abercrombie, Nova Scotia. Her honours thesis explored metabolic heat release from brain with lactate - Publication. Erin is currently a medical student at Dalhousie University.

Brett King

Brett is a third year Human Kinetics student from the Annapolis Valley. This past summer, Brett honed his skills at assessing exercise metabolic thresholds. Brett is a varsity XC and track athlete.

Brooke MacDonald

Brooke is a fourth year Human Kinetics student from Antigonish. Her honours project (collaborative co-supervision with Dr. Tammy Rodela, StFX Biology) aims to invesitgate the effects of physical conditioning on muscle metabolic function in Mangrove killifish

Caden Lee

Brooke is a fourth year Human Kinetics student from Ontario. Her honours project involves a case study, looking at the metabolic response to running during pregnancy and postpartum. Caden is a varsity XC and track athlete.

Mathew Lawton

Mathew is an Engineering student from the Halifax region. He has been involved in application development for some of the exercise testing in the lab. Mathew is a varsity XC and track athlete.

Griffin Gamble

Griffin is an Engineering student from the Halifax region. This past summer, he explored web design for the lab. Griffin is varsity XC and track athlete.

Grace's summer research experience was supported through an NSERC USRA. She is currently a medical student at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St John’s.

Blake recently returned to StFX as the Head Sports Performance Coach, following postgraduate experience training athletes at the junior, collegiate, and professional levels.

Amy Graham, BSc HKIN Honours

Amy's summer research  experience was supported through an Irving Mentorship Award. She is currently a medical student at the University of Toronto.

Elizabeth Wallace, BSc HKIN Honours, MSc

After StFX (research 1; 2) Elizabeth held positions in research and government. She is currently a master's student at the University of Ottawa.

Laura Davidson, BSc Biology Honours

Laura's honours research was selected for a presentation at Experimental Biology 2018. She recently returned to Antigonish to practice medicine following study at Dalhousie University

Eibhlin Storey, BSc HKIN Honours

Eibhlin earned a Scotia Scholar award to complete her honours research. She is currently a Paediatric Dental Resident with the IWK Health Centre

Mitchell George, BSc HKIN Honours, MSc

Mitch presented his research both nationally and internationally. After earning an MSc at the U of Calgary, he has held multiple leadership roles in industry.

Meghan Hughes, BSc HKIN Honours, MSc, PhD

After graduating from StFX with honours (publication), Meghan went on to earn an MSc and PhD from York U with distinctions. She currently holds a leadership position in industry.

Chris Newell, BSc HKIN Honours

After graduating from StFX with honours (publication), Chris earned an MD/PhD at the University of Calgary. Most recently, he was a neuropathology resident in Calgary, Alberta.

Emma Aucoin, BSc HKIN Honours, MScPT

Co-supervised with Dr. J. Jamieson (StFX Nutrition), Emma investigated the effects of vitamin supplementation on blood glucose. She is currently a practicing physiotherapist.  

Matthew Oldfield, BSc HKIN Honours, MD

Co-supervised with Dr. M. Palmer, Matt investigated the effects of a non-deceptive placebo on body composition. Matt is currently a Diagnostic Radiology resident at Dalhousie University.

Hannah Mawhinney, BSc HNU Honours

Co-supervised with Dr. J. Jamieson (StFX Nutrition), Hannah investigated the influence of vitamin B6 status on running performance and went on to pursue graduate study in nutritional sciences.

Adrienne White, BSc HKIN Honours, RN

Adrienne’s honours thesis investigated the oxidation of lactate in skeletal muscle mitochondria. She is currently a Registered Nurse and health manager in Halifax.

Mary Weir, BSc HNU Honours, HKIN

Mary was the technician in the Mitochondrial Physiology Lab. Mary graduated from StFX Human Kinetics, and previously StFX Human Nutrition Honours (supervised by Dr. J. Jamieson, StFX Nutrition).

Devin explored mitochondrial metabolism of various substrates in skeletal and cardiac muscle, as well as brain
