I was born in Bilbao, Spain, the largest city in the Basque Country. When I was about four years old, my father's employer relocated our family overseas, and we lived in Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic before returning to Spain when I was about eight. A couple of years later, we moved to Ecuador, where we lived for almost four years, followed by another four years in the beautiful colonial city of Sucre, Bolivia. After high school, I went to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where I studied Computer Science. On the first day of orientation week for international students, I met my future wife, who is from Malaysia. My wife, our son, and I now live in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, where I am a Professor in the Department of Computer Science.
