This is a tentative outline for the course. There may be changes throughout the year. Watch for readings to be posted as they become available.

Jan. 9	Foundations of teaching mathematics NCTM Principles and Standards Relational Understanding Skemp, Richard (1978). Instrumental understanding and relational understanding. Mathematics Teaching, 77, 20-26. (Follow this link if you want to read the original Skemp article). The Condominium Problem	Chapters 1, 2 & 3 Briefly look at Chapter 1 - take some time to focus on the section on the NCTM Principles and Standards pp.2-6. In chapter 2 focus on what it means to do mathematics pp.12-14, you can peruse the section on problems most of which we looked at in class, and then read the brief section on helping students do mathematics on p.20. Read all of chapter 3.
