Boîtes Dioramique Genus (ca. 1850 - 1860)

Boîtes Dioramiques are part of a family of optical machines designed for standard-format plaques dioramiques – a type of paper diorama affixed to a rectangular wooden frame.

They all have a back-flap for back-illumination of translucent paper dioramas and a top-flap for front-illumination, as well as a slot for inserting and removing the plaques dioramic.

They are distinct from other devices in this family by having a lens-extension from a rectangular body, but not in the form of a bellows.

So far only two species have been identified for this genus:

Boîte Dioramique:
MNC-M05119

This boîte dioramique has a tin lens-extension that is adjustable for length.

Dipoletti Scatola Dioramico:
MNC-M05119

This box has a fixed lens extension and stands on turned legs.
